Piedmont

Piedmont is a small urban fringe city located in Alameda County that is completely surrounded by the city of Oakland. Its population is approximately 11,000.

According to SchoolDigger, the Piedmont Unified School District was ranked #63 of 846 districts in the state of California for the 2018-2019 school district. Surprisingly the City of Albany is ranked #35 which is the highest ranking school district within Alameda County. Piedmont is a popular city for well-heeled home buyers that want access to urban amenities in Oakland, the great Piedmont school district, and the convenient location within the inner East Bay. Of course the beautiful housing stock in Piedmont appeals to many home buyers as well. Many of these stately homes were built in the 1920’s. In the Twenties, Piedmont was known as the ‘City of Millionaires’ because there were more millionaires per square mile than in any city in the United States. At that time many of these millionaires built mansions that still stand, notably on Sea View Avenue and Sotelo Avenue/Glen Alpine Road in ‘Alta’ Piedmont.
